What are Air Source Heat Pumps?

An air source heat pump (ASHP) is a renewable and energy-efficient heating system that draws heat from the outside air and converts it into usable heat for your hot water and central heating. ASHPs are gaining popularity as an eco-friendly alternative to traditional heating systems that rely on gas, oil, or LPG.

By opting for an air source heat pump, you can reduce your carbon footprint and enjoy a sustainable heating solution for your home.

Benefits of Air Source Heat Pumps.

Choosing an air source heat pump for your home heating needs comes with a multitude of advantages. Not only do ASHPs provide a greener alternative to traditional heating systems, but they also offer significant cost and efficiency benefits.

With support from the ECO 4 grant, upgrading to an air source heat pump has never been more accessible. Here are some key benefits of installing an air source heat pump.

Who Can Apply for an
Air Source Heat Pump Grant?

100% free heat pump grants are now available through the ECO4 government Energy scheme.

The ECO 4 grant is a government-funded program designed to assist households struggling with fuel poverty. If someone in your household receives a means-tested benefit and your home has a low energy rating, you may qualify for a fully-funded air source heat pump. This grant is non-repayable, meaning you won’t have to pay anything back.

Air Source Heat Pump FAQs

Yes, because the ECO scheme is designed to help vulnerable households cope with fuel poverty, you will never be asked to repay a grant or even make a financial contribution. All measures and work installed under the Energy Company Obligation are covered by a 100% grant if you are eligible for the scheme.

Typically, a traditional gas boiler lasts up to around 15 years and will become less efficient as time goes on and will have to work harder to heat your home. A well-maintained air source heat pump could last up to 20 years.

Heat Pump servicing is often overlooked as an integral part of maintaining the longevity and efficiency of the unit. It is recommended that you have your Heat Pump professionally serviced every 12 months, ideally before the start of winter, to ensure your unit is working optimally.

Yes, you will use more electricity due to the way that heat pumps work, but, the annual savings can be considerable, particularly if you’re upgrading from older systems.

An air source heat pump could save up to £1,330 per year compared to old electric storage heaters, or up to £1,410 per year compared to an old LPG boiler. However, to maximize savings, additional improvements to your property may be needed, such as better insulation, solar panels, and battery packs to generate and store free electricity for your air source heat pump. These are all things we can assess, and the ECO 4 grant will cover if you are eligible.
